But they are slowly gaining popularity as manufacturers are coming up with better ways to recycle cadmium. These batteries can last for about ten years and this is commonly used in off-grid systems. Flow batteries use electrolyte fluids and therefore they have a longer life span. They can be used in off-grid systems and also large scale systems. There are two tanks in a flow battery that is suspended in a chamber. One tank is discharged to charge the other and this creates a flow which gives the name for the battery. However, they can be quite expensive. You can use this battery for about twenty years.
