Kids often begin their educational journey at a Montessori school. A Montessori school is different from traditional schools. They do not teach students using a spoon-feeding method in a Montessori school.

Some fundamental principles of Montessori schools include the following:

1.   Respecting Kids during Montessori

The first philosophy of Montessori schools is that kids will be treated with respect. They prioritize the needs and interests of a kid more than that of the instructor. A child-centered approach is taken up in Montessori schools to provide an enriching learning experience. Educators should understand that every kid has different learning requirements. Teachers should be able to adjust themselves according to the learning needs of students.

One method of teaching will not bring the same results to all the children. The teachers should not force children to learn at another kid’s learning pace. Humiliating children for their mistakes or behavior does not revolve around respecting the children.

Teachers in a Montessori environment deal with the misbehavior of children by talking to them outside class. It prevents children from getting emotionally damaged due to humiliation in front of peers.

2.   Determining Sensitive Periods during K 12 Education

Students often undergo sensitive periods during which they are capable of learning specific information and skills. The sensitive period is visible at different times in different kids. We see the sensitive period in children after they discover an aptitude for various things.

Montessori teachers focus on finding the sensitive periods in each child as it is a significant growth point in K12 education. After identifying the sensitive period in children, teachers focus on finding the right resources to accelerate the learning experience of a student. Recognizing the sensitive period is essential to make kids realize their potential.

3. Contextual Learning

Throughout the course of k 12 education, contextual learning has the ability to yield great results. Contextual learning ensures that students can implement their lessons in real-life situations. When kids are introduced to contextual learning from a tender age, they realize the importance of understanding instead of mugging up.

Contextual learning encourages students to take facts and figures into account. Therefore, kids become better at making decisions. Contextual learning also helps students to become more confident about expressing themselves and exploring new talents. It is way ahead of traditional learning and increases the knowledge of students.

4.   Interaction with Peers

One principle of Montessori education is to teach kids how to interact with peers. A Montessori school environment simulates students learning from each other. We made students to participate in group activities so that they become better at communicating.

It ensures that students are able to become better at group projects or discussions in high school. It can also improve interaction with adults when they grow up. Students become better at expressing their views and opinions. Developing communication skills will help students at every stage of their careers.

5.   Teaches Self-Discipline and Responsibility

Montessori training is important to teach students about responsibility and self-discipline. We made students to discover a learning path with adequate guidance from teachers. Students learn responsibility and self-discipline as they have to work within the classroom framework. They learn how to use their time productively.

A Montessori classroom also teaches kids to take care of themselves and others. We made the kids realize that finding success in academics is their own responsibility. We motivate them to regulate their behavior to find success in life. Children showing self-discipline are rewarded with the ability to choose the learning style that fits them the most.

6. A Curriculum with Independence

Montessori classrooms enable kids to follow a curriculum that offers them a lot of independence. While the traditional model of education believed in directing students, the modern approach to education is about guiding students. Children are allowed to choose activities in the classroom that they find the most appealing.

They feel free to explore activities within the classroom at their own pace. Children make mistakes, but they are given the opportunity to grow from their mistakes. The curriculum with so much freedom fosters creativity in children. It also empowers the kids to become their best versions.

7.   Organized Environment

Children have a lot of freedom in a Montessori classroom. But a Montessori classroom is also highly organized. They teach children classroom decorum, and they stay quiet. They also kept all the tools and resources in the classroom in their places. Sometimes children are encouraged to take part in the organization. For instance, children are free to choose which toy they want to play with. But after they are done playing, they are made to keep the toys in their respective places.
